Master the precision art of hand-engraved lettering in this intensive two-day masterclass led by award-winning engraver John Cook. Moving step-by-step from simple line fonts to a three-letter ribbon cut Victorian monogram, you will learn font selection, text layout, graver selection, and execution rules to transform jewellery into personalised, cherished heirlooms.

All materials included: All metal practice pieces and five specialised gravers are provided by the tutor for use during the workshop. Specialist tools will also be available to purchase on the course.
What you'll make
- Lettering practice pieces progressing from simple line fonts to a finished three-letter ribbon cut Victorian monogram.
Skills & Techniques
- Font Selection: Identifying which typography and font styles work best for hand engraving.
- Layout & Alignment: Rules for laying out, aligning, and scaling text accurately on metal.
- Graver Selection & Use: Mastering 5 specific gravers (small/large flat, small/large round, and square V-graver) and knowing where to apply each cut.
- Cutting Mechanics: Executing controlled line cuts, spacing, and structural letter geometry.
- Victorian Monogramming: Crafting advanced three-letter ribbon cut monograms.

- Prerequisites: Intermediate class; prior hand engraving experience is desirable as foundation metalworking skills are assumed.

- GPS Note: We are located before Morgan Marine. Look for the parking area in front of the snack bar.
